SHOE ART SHOW PROJECT

In the aftermath of the 1997 Flood of the Century in the Red River Valley, Dancing Fair in Minneapolis, MN, shipped new shoes for distribution to dancers affected by the flood. Most of the shoes were given to adult and youth dancers and performers. Ten years later, the remaining odd sizes have been transformed into shoe art by experienced and emerging artists of all ages and gender, working solo or in groups, on one or more pairs of shoes.

The focus of the 2008 A Woman's Perspective Multimedia Art Exhibition was to ignite, translate and share COMPASSION by searching within and without for compassion towards self, another individual, group, cause or issue. Walk in another's shoes, if the shoe fits, the other shoe, etc., provided inspiration for creation. The theme was translated through visual, literary, performing and teaching arts.

The resulting visual art installation morphed over the three-month long exhibition as shoes were distributed and returned, culminating in shoe art exhibits in Moorhead and Fargo with a grand finale runway show, live and silent shoe art auction, three-course dessert tasting, and entertainment closing celebration.
